On November 4, 2024, the Agreement through which the Plenary of the Federal Telecommunications Institute amends the “General Rules that establish the terms and requirements for the granting of authorizations in telecommunications matters as set forth in the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law” (the “Rules”) was published in the Mexican Federal Official Gazette. Following the publication in July 2024 of the Public Consultation of the Preliminary Draft of these amendments, the new provisions came into force on November 5 of this year.
These amendments will be mandatory for all persons interested in obtaining from the Federal Telecommunications Institute (the “Institute”) any of the authorizations referred to in sections I, II, III, and IV of Article 170 of the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law (the “Law”). The objective of these amendments is to make the management of authorization procedures set forth in Article 170 of the Law before the Institute more efficient, agile, and transparent. Accordingly, the new Rules provide for the issuance of various application formats for satellite communication matters and the update of existing formats.
